File permissions control who can read, write, or run your files. Getting them right keeps your site both working and secure. This guide explains how to view and change permissions in cPanel’s File Manager.
Understanding permission numbers #
Permissions are shown as three digits:
- Files: usually 644.
- Folders: usually 755.
- Avoid 777, which is insecure and rarely necessary.
Changing permissions #
- Log in to cPanel and open Gestor de archivos.
- Select the file or folder.

- Set the correct value, such as 644 or 755.
