When you move hosting, your email needs care so you do not lose messages. The safest approach is to recreate your mailboxes on Disoh first and use IMAP so your mail stays on the server during the switch. This guide explains how.
Why email needs special attention #
If email is hosted with your website, changing your domain’s MX records moves where new mail is delivered. Done carelessly, messages can bounce or be split across two servers. Planning avoids that.
Step 1: Recreate your mailboxes on Disoh #
Before switching, create the same email addresses on Disoh with the same names, so incoming mail has somewhere to land.
Step 2: Copy your existing mail across #
- Set up both the old and new accounts in a mail client using IMAP.
- Drag or copy messages and folders from the old account into the new one.
- This uploads your mail to Disoh so nothing is lost.
Step 3: Switch your MX records #
Once your mail is copied and mailboxes are ready, update your domain’s MX records to point to Disoh. New mail then arrives on Disoh.
Step 4: Confirm and clean up #
- Send test messages in and out.
- Keep the old mailboxes for a few days to catch stragglers during propagation.
