Hoe stel je SEO-vriendelijke permalinks in WordPress in?

1 min lezen

Permalinks are the URLs of your pages and posts. A clean, descriptive URL structure helps both visitors and search engines understand your content, so setting permalinks correctly is an easy SEO win. This guide explains the options and the recommended setup.

What permalinks are #

A permalink is the permanent web address of a piece of content, for example yourdomain.com/about of yourdomain.com/blog/my-post. WordPress lets you choose the overall structure these follow.

The recommended setting #

  1. Ga naar Settings > Permalinks.
  2. Kies Post name, which gives clean URLs like /my-post.
  3. Klik op Save Changes.

The “Post name” structure is short, readable, and keyword-friendly, which is why it is recommended for most sites.

Why clean URLs matter #

  • They are easier for visitors to read and remember.
  • They can include keywords that help search relevance.
  • They look more trustworthy when shared.

Editing individual slugs #

Beyond the overall structure, you can edit each page or post’s slug (the last part of its URL) in the editor’s settings panel. Keep slugs short, lowercase, and descriptive, and remove filler words.

Important: changing permalinks on an existing site #

If your site is already live, changing the permalink structure changes every URL, which can break links and hurt SEO. If you must change it, set up redirects from the old URLs to the new ones so visitors and search engines are not lost.

Problemen oplossen #

  • 404 errors after changing: re-save permalinks to refresh the rules, and set up redirects.
  • Slug already in use: WordPress adds a number; choose a unique slug.
