The default address, or catch-all, decides what happens to email sent to your domain that does not match an existing mailbox, such as a misspelled address. This guide explains how to configure it in cPanel.
Setting the default address #
- Log in op cPanel.
- In de E-mail sectie, openen Default Address.
- Choose an option: discard with an error (recommended), or forward to a specific address.
- Als u het bericht doorstuurt, voer dan de postbus van de ontvanger in.
- Opslaan.
De juiste optie kiezen #
- Discard with error: bounces stray mail back; the cleanest choice and best for reducing spam.
- Forward to an address: delivers stray mail to a chosen mailbox; useful for catching genuine typos.
Een opmerking over spam #
Forwarding all unmatched mail can attract spam, since spammers guess random addresses. Many people prefer the discard option and simply create the specific addresses they need, paired with good spam filtering.
Problemen oplossen #
- Te veel spam: switch to discard with error.
- Expected mail missing: confirm the default is set to an address you monitor.
