Each mailbox has a storage quota that limits how much email it can hold. If a mailbox is filling up or you want to give one more room, you can adjust the quota in DirectAdmin in seconds. This guide shows how.
Why quotas matter #
When a mailbox reaches its quota, it can stop receiving new mail, and senders may get a “mailbox full” bounce. Setting sensible quotas keeps mail flowing and helps you manage overall disk usage.
Changing a mailbox quota #
- Log in bij DirectAdmin.
- Ga naar Account Manager > E-mail Accounts.
- Find the mailbox and open its settings (modify).
- Set a new quota in megabytes, or choose unlimited if allowed.
- Opslaan.
Managing a full mailbox #
If a mailbox is already full, raising the quota is the quickest fix, but it is also worth freeing space by:
- Deleting large attachments and old messages.
- Emptying the Trash and Junk folders.
- Archiving old mail locally if you use a desktop client.
Keeping an eye on usage #
Check mailbox usage from the E-mail Accounts list, where each account’s used space is shown. Reviewing this occasionally helps you spot a mailbox that needs more room before it causes problems.
Problemen oplossen #
- Still not receiving mail: the mailbox may need clearing as well as a higher quota.
- Cannot set unlimited: your plan’s total disk space still applies.
