How do I set up email filters in cPanel?

< 1 min read

Email filters automatically sort or act on incoming messages based on rules, keeping your inbox organised. cPanel offers both account-level and per-mailbox filters. This guide explains how to create them.

Account vs. user filters #

  • Global Email Filters: apply to every mailbox on the account.
  • Email Filters: apply to a single mailbox you choose.

Creating a filter #

  1. Log in to cPanel.
  2. In the Email section, open Email Filters (or Global Email Filters).
  3. For a single mailbox, choose the account and click Create a New Filter.
  4. Set the condition, such as “From contains” or “Subject contains”.
  5. Choose the action, such as deliver to folder, discard, or redirect.
  6. Save.

Useful filter ideas #

  • Move newsletters to a dedicated folder.
  • Route project mail into its own folder.
  • Discard messages from a persistent spammer.

Troubleshooting #

  • Filter not matching: check the condition text and rule order.
  • Wanted mail discarded: loosen or remove the rule.
