Once you have a domain and a WordPress installation, you need to connect the two so that your domain shows your WordPress site. Whether you are launching a brand new site or moving WordPress to a new domain, the process is straightforward when you take it step by step. This guide covers both pointing the domain and telling WordPress its correct address.
Step 1: Point the domain to your hosting #
First, your domain needs to lead to the server where WordPress lives. There are two common ways to do this, and if your domain and hosting are both with Disoh this may already be handled for you:
- Nameservers: set the domain to use your Disoh nameservers to manage everything in one place.
- A record: point the domain’s A record to your server’s IP address.
Allow time for the change to propagate before expecting the site to load on the new domain.
Step 2: Set the domain as the WordPress address #
WordPress stores its own address in its settings, so it needs to know the domain you want to use. For a straightforward case:
- Log in to your WordPress dashboard.
- Go to Settings > General.
- Set both WordPress Address (URL) and Site Address (URL) to your domain, using https.
- Save changes.
If you are moving to a completely new domain, you may need to update the URLs in the database as well, since older links can still point to the previous address.
Step 3: Enable SSL and force HTTPS #
Make sure a valid SSL certificate is active for the domain, then ensure WordPress loads over https. Using https everywhere is important for security, trust, and SEO. If you see “not secure” warnings, confirm the certificate is issued and that your site address uses https.
Step 4: Fix mixed content and old links #
After switching domains or enabling https, some images or links may still point to the old address, causing “mixed content” warnings. A search-and-replace tool or plugin can update these references across your content so everything loads cleanly over the new, secure domain.

- Domain shows a blank or error page: confirm it points to your hosting and WordPress is installed there.
- Login redirect loops: double-check the WordPress and Site Address URLs match.
