A redirect automatically sends visitors from one URL to another, useful when you move a page or want a short link. This guide explains how to set one up in cPanel.
Creating a redirect #
- Log in to cPanel.
- In the Domains section, open Redirects.
- Choose the type (Permanent 301 or Temporary 302).
- Select the domain and enter the path to redirect from.
- Enter the full destination URL.
- Click Add.
301 vs 302 #
- 301 (permanent): best for moved pages; passes SEO value.
- 302 (temporary): for short-term changes.
www and full-path options #
You can usually choose whether the redirect applies to www, non-www, or both, and whether to redirect with or without the full path. For a simple move, redirecting both and keeping the default path works well.
Troubleshooting #
- Loop: make sure the source and destination are not circular.
- Old page still loads: clear your browser and site cache.
- Wrong destination: check the target URL for typos.
