How do I create an FTP account in cPanel?

An FTP account lets you upload and manage website files with a program like FileZilla. Creating a separate account is safer than sharing your main login. If your hosting uses cPanel, here is how.

Step-by-step: create an FTP account #

1. Log in to cPanel.
2. In the Files section, click FTP Accounts.
3. Enter a username and choose the domain.
4. Set a strong password.
5. Set the Directory to limit access (for example, a single folder).
6. Set a quota or leave it unlimited if allowed.
7. Click Create FTP Account.

Getting the connection details #

• In the FTP Accounts list, click Configure FTP Client next to your account.
• Note the server (host), username, and port.

Connecting with FileZilla #

1. Open FileZilla and create a new site.
2. Host: your server or domain.
