How to Enable Domain Auto-Renew and Never Lose Your Domain

1 min read

Auto-renew is a simple setting that automatically renews your domain before it expires, charging your saved payment method so you never have to remember the date yourself. For most people it is the single most valuable domain setting to turn on, because it removes the biggest cause of lost domains: simply forgetting. Here is how it works and how to enable it.

Why auto-renew is worth using #

Domains expire on a fixed date, and once they lapse your website and email can go offline within hours. Manually tracking renewal dates across one or several domains is easy to get wrong, especially if you only think about your domain once a year. Auto-renew takes that responsibility off your plate. The benefits are clear:

  • No missed dates: the renewal happens automatically.
  • No downtime: your site and email keep running without interruption.
  • No last-minute panic: no scramble to recover an expired domain.

How to enable auto-renew #

  • Log in to your Disoh account.
  • Open the Domains section and select the domain.
  • Find the Auto-Renew setting and switch it on.
  • Make sure a valid payment method is saved to your account.
  • Save your changes.

With auto-renew active, the system attempts to renew the domain automatically ahead of its expiry date.

Keep your payment method current #

Auto-renew can only work if it has a working way to charge you. An expired or removed card is a common reason an automatic renewal fails despite the setting being on. Whenever your card details change, update them in your account so renewals continue smoothly. It is also wise to keep your account email monitored, as you will still receive confirmations and any failure notices there.

When you might turn it off #

Auto-renew is right for almost every domain you intend to keep. The main reason to disable it is when you have deliberately decided to let a domain go, for example a campaign domain you no longer need. Even then, it is often safer to leave it on until you are certain, since re-registering a released domain is not always possible.

Troubleshooting #

  • Auto-renew did not trigger: confirm the setting is on and your payment method is valid.
  • Renewal charge failed: update your billing details and renew manually if the date is close.
  • Unsure if it is enabled: the status is shown next to the domain in your account.
