An SSL certificate enables HTTPS, shows the padlock in the browser, encrypts data, and helps your SEO. Most cPanel hosts include free SSL through AutoSSL. Here is how to check and install it.
Checking AutoSSL #
- Log in to cPanel.
- In the Security section, click SSL/TLS Status.
- Look for your domains in the list. Many will already show a valid certificate.
Running AutoSSL manually #
- On the SSL/TLS Status page, select your domains.
- Click Run AutoSSL.
- Wait a few minutes while the certificate is issued and installed.
Forcing HTTPS on your site #
Once SSL is active, make sure visitors use it:
- WordPress: set the site address to https and use a plugin or setting to force HTTPS.
- Other sites: add a redirect from http to https.
Verifying it works #
- Visit your site with https:// and check for the padlock.
- Make sure there are no “not secure” warnings.
Troubleshooting #
- Certificate not issued: confirm the domain points to this server and try AutoSSL again.
- Mixed content warnings: update image and script links to https.
- Still shows not secure: clear your cache and confirm the redirect is active.
