Why resources matter #
On shared hosting, each account is given a fair share of CPU, memory, and processes. If your site regularly hits these limits, it can slow down or briefly return errors during spikes. Watching your usage tells you whether this is happening.
Viewing resource usage #
- Log in to DirectAdmin.
- Look for a Resource Usage or Statistics section (often labelled CloudLinux LVE usage).
- Review your CPU, memory, and process usage against the limits.
- Note any points where usage reached the maximum (faults).
What high usage means #
Occasional peaks are normal. Frequent maxing out suggests your site needs attention, often from heavy plugins, unoptimised code, or growing traffic. Faults are the moments the limit was reached, which can cause slowdowns.
How to reduce usage #
- Enable caching so pages are not rebuilt on every visit.
- Remove heavy or unnecessary plugins.
- Optimise images and database queries.
- Upgrade your plan if your site has simply outgrown it.
