# How do I set up email filters in cPanel?

Email filters automatically sort or act on incoming messages based on rules, keeping your inbox organised. cPanel offers both account-level and per-mailbox filters. This guide explains how to create them.

## Account vs. user filters

- **Global Email Filters:** apply to every mailbox on the account.
- **Email Filters:** apply to a single mailbox you choose.

## Creating a filter

1. Log in to cPanel.
2. In the **Email** section, open **Email Filters** (or Global Email Filters).
3. For a single mailbox, choose the account and click **Create a New Filter**.
4. Set the condition, such as "From contains" or "Subject contains".
5. Choose the action, such as deliver to folder, discard, or redirect.
6. Save.

## Useful filter ideas

- Move newsletters to a dedicated folder.
- Route project mail into its own folder.
- Discard messages from a persistent spammer.

## Troubleshooting

- **Filter not matching:** check the condition text and rule order.
- **Wanted mail discarded:** loosen or remove the rule.
