BUTT, short for Broadcast Using This Tool, is a free and popular application for live broadcasting to a SHOUTcast or Icecast server. It is lightweight, easy to learn, and works on Windows, macOS, and Linux, which makes it a favourite for new broadcasters. This guide shows you how to connect BUTT to your Disoh radio server and go live.
What you need before you start #
Have your server connection details ready. You can find these in your radio control panel:
- Tipo de servidor: SHOUTcast ou Icecast.
- Hostname or IP address.
- Port number.
- Senha de origem.
- Para o Icecast, o ponto de montagem (for example, /stream).
You will also need a microphone or an audio source selected in your computer’s sound settings.
Setting up a server in BUTT #
- Open BUTT and click Settings.
- No Main tab, under Server, click Add.
- Give the server a name you will recognise.
- Choose the correct type (SHOUTcast or Icecast).
- Enter the Endereço (hostname), Port, e Senha.
- For Icecast, enter the ponto de montagem.
- Save the settings.
Choosing your audio settings #
On the Audio tab, select your input device (such as your microphone or mixer) and set the format and bitrate. A common choice for music is MP3 at 128 kbps, which balances quality and reliability. Make sure the format you pick is supported by your server configuration.
Entrada em operação #
- Back on the main BUTT window, click Play (the connect button) to start streaming.
- Watch for the connected status and the signal meter moving.
- Open your stream URL in a media player to confirm you can hear yourself.
- Clique em Stop when you are finished broadcasting.
Solução de problemas #
- Não é possível conectar-se: double-check the hostname, port, password, and (for Icecast) the mount point.
- Connected but silent: confirm the correct input device is selected and not muted.
- Os ouvintes ouvem os drops: lower the bitrate or check your upload speed.
