AutoDJ is the feature that keeps your radio station on air around the clock, even when no one is live at the microphone. It plays through a playlist you upload, automatically moving from track to track, so your listeners always hear something. Setting it up is one of the most important steps in running a reliable internet radio station. This guide explains how.
What AutoDJ does #
Think of AutoDJ as an automated presenter that never sleeps. You give it your music, arrange the order or let it shuffle, and it streams continuously to your SHOUTcast or Icecast server. When you want to go live yourself, you can take over, and AutoDJ resumes when you are done. This combination of automation and live control is what makes internet radio practical for one person or a small team.
Enabling AutoDJ #
- Log in to your radio control panel.
- Finde die AutoDJ section and make sure it is enabled for your account.
- If it is not active, you may need to switch it on or select a plan that includes it.
Uploading your music #
AutoDJ needs music before it can play. Most control panels let you upload files directly or via FTP for larger libraries:
- Prepare your tracks as properly tagged MP3 files (title and artist filled in).
- Upload them through the AutoDJ media manager, or use FTP for bulk uploads.
- Wait for the files to be processed and added to your media library.
Building a playlist #
Once your music is uploaded, organise how it plays. You can usually create playlists, set a general rotation, and schedule specific playlists for certain times of day. A few good practices:
- Create themed playlists if your schedule varies (for example, mornings versus evenings).
- Enable shuffle to avoid repetitive ordering.
- Use crossfade settings for smooth transitions between songs.
Starting the stream #
With music uploaded and a playlist set, start AutoDJ from the control panel. Confirm it is playing by checking the status and opening your stream URL in a media player. From this point your station is live 24/7 until you stop it or take over with live broadcasting.
Fehlerbehebung #
- AutoDJ not playing: confirm it is enabled and that music has finished processing.
- Songs show no title: make sure your files have correct ID3 tags.
- Silence between tracks: check the crossfade or gap settings.
