How do I check my disk usage in cPanel?

Keeping an eye on disk usage helps you avoid a full account, which can stop email and break your site. cPanel makes it easy to see what is using your space. This guide explains how.

Where usage is shown #

The cPanel sidebar shows a Statistics panel with your disk usage against your plan’s allowance. For a detailed breakdown, use the Disk Usage tool.

Using the Disk Usage tool #

  1. Log in to cPanel.
  2. In the Files section, open Disk Usage.
  3. Review which folders and files use the most space.

Common space users #

  • Email: large mailboxes and attachments add up.
  • Backups: old backups can consume a lot.
  • Media: images and videos in your site.
  • Logs and caches: can grow over time.

Freeing up space #

  • Delete old backups and unused large files.
  • Clear full mailboxes and empty Trash/Junk.
  • Optimise or offload large media.
  • Upgrade your plan if you consistently run close to the limit.

Troubleshooting #

  • Usage higher than expected: check email and backups first.
  • Site or email stopped: free space or upgrade, then retry.
