Email filters automatically sort or act on incoming messages based on rules, keeping your inbox organised. cPanel offers both account-level and per-mailbox filters. This guide explains how to create them.
Account vs. user filters #
- Global Email Filters: apply to every mailbox on the account.
- Email Filters: apply to a single mailbox you choose.
Creating a filter #
- Log in to cPanel.
- In the Email section, open Email Filters (or Global Email Filters).
- For a single mailbox, choose the account and click Create a New Filter.
- Set the condition, such as “From contains” or “Subject contains”.
- Choose the action, such as deliver to folder, discard, or redirect.
- Save.
Useful filter ideas #
- Move newsletters to a dedicated folder.
- Route project mail into its own folder.
- Discard messages from a persistent spammer.
Troubleshooting #
- Filter not matching: check the condition text and rule order.
- Wanted mail discarded: loosen or remove the rule.
