If you or a team member is locked out of a mailbox, or you simply want to tighten security, you can reset any email account’s password in DirectAdmin in a few clicks. This is separate from your main DirectAdmin login. This guide explains how.
Resetting an email password #
- Log in to DirectAdmin (usually yourdomain.com:2222).
- Go to Account Manager and click E-mail Accounts.
- Find the mailbox in the list.
- Click the options or gear icon and choose to change the password (or use the modify option).
- Enter a new, strong password and save.
Update your devices afterwards #
After changing a mailbox password, any device or app using that account will stop sending and receiving until you update it. Remember to update the password in:
- Your phone or tablet mail app.
- Desktop clients such as Outlook or Apple Mail.
- Webmail, if it has saved credentials.
Tips #
- Use a unique password for each mailbox.
- Reset immediately if you suspect an account was compromised.
- Keep a secure record so you can update your devices.
Troubleshooting #
- Mail stopped working after the change: update the password in every mail app that uses the account.
- Still cannot send: confirm the outgoing (SMTP) settings and password match.
