How do I reset an email account password in cPanel?

< 1 min read

If a mailbox is locked out or you want to tighten security, you can reset any email account’s password in cPanel. This is separate from your main cPanel login. This guide explains how.

Resetting the password #

  1. Log in to cPanel.
  2. In the Email section, open Sähköpostitilit.
  3. Find the mailbox and click Manage.
  4. Enter a new, strong password.
  5. Save.

Update your devices afterwards #

Any device using that mailbox will stop working until you update the password. Remember to change it in:

  • Your phone or tablet mail app.
  • Desktop clients like Outlook or Apple Mail.
  • Webmail, if credentials are saved.

Tips #

  • Use a unique password per mailbox.
  • Reset immediately if an account may be compromised.
  • Keep a secure record to update your devices.

Troubleshooting #

  • Mail stopped after the change: update the password everywhere the account is used.
  • Cannot send: confirm the outgoing (SMTP) password matches.
