By default, WordPress shows your latest blog posts on the homepage. Most business sites, though, want a designed landing page instead. WordPress makes it easy to set a static page as your homepage. This guide explains how.
Posts page vs. static homepage #
You have two choices for what visitors see first: your latest posts (good for blogs and news sites) or a static page you have designed (good for businesses). You can also do both, with a static homepage and a separate page for your blog.
Step 1: Create your pages #
- Create the page you want as your homepage (for example, “Home”).
- If you want a blog too, create an empty page called “Blog” or “News”.
Step 2: Set the homepage #
- Go to Settings > Reading.
- Under “Your homepage displays”, choose A static page.
- Select your Home page as the Homepage.
- If you made a blog page, select it as the Posts page.
- Click Save Changes.
Design your homepage #
With a static homepage, you control the layout completely. Use the block editor or your theme’s tools to add a hero section, an introduction, calls to action, and links to your key pages.
Tips #
- Make your main call to action clear and prominent.
- Keep the page focused on what you want visitors to do.
- Link to your most important pages from the homepage.
Troubleshooting #
- Still seeing blog posts: confirm you selected “A static page” and saved.
- Blog missing: assign a Posts page under Settings > Reading.
- Homepage looks blank: add content to the page you selected.
