The Zone Editor in cPanel lets you add and edit DNS records such as A, CNAME, MX, and TXT. These control where your domain and email point. Here is how to use it safely.
Opening the Zone Editor #
- Log in to cPanel.
- In the Verkkotunnukset section, click Zone Editor.
- Find your domain and click Manage (or use the quick “+ A Record” style buttons).
Common record types #
- A record: points a name to an IPv4 address.
- CNAME: points one name to another name.
- MX: routes email to your mail server.
- TXT: holds values like SPF and DKIM for email authentication.
Adding a record #
- Click Add Record and choose the type.
- Enter the name, TTL, and value.
- Click Add Record to save.
Editing or deleting #
- Find the record in the list.
- Click Edit to change the value, or Delete to remove it.
- Save your changes.
Important tips #
- DNS changes can take a few hours to propagate.
- Take note of the original value before editing.
- Be careful with MX and TXT records, since errors can break email.
Troubleshooting #
- Site not loading: confirm the A record IP is correct.
- Email problems: re-check MX and SPF values.
- Change not visible: allow time for propagation.
