The WordPress dashboard is where you manage your whole site: pages, posts, appearance, and settings. Knowing how to log in, and what to do if you cannot, is the first step to running your site. This guide covers it.
How to log in #
- Go to your site’s admin address, usually yourdomain.com/wp-admin (or /wp-login.php).
- Enter your WordPress username or email.
- Enter your password.
- Click Log In.
Note this is your WordPress login, which is separate from your hosting control panel and your email logins.
If you forgot your password #
- Click Lost your password? on the login page.
- Enter your username or email.
- Follow the reset link sent to your email.
Tips for staying secure #
- Use a strong, unique password.
- Avoid the username “admin”.
- Consider a two-factor authentication plugin.
Troubleshooting #
- Reset email not arriving: check spam, or reset the password another way (see our guide on resetting a lost admin password).
- Cannot reach /wp-admin: confirm your domain points to your site and try clearing your cache.
- Login loop: clear cookies and cache, and confirm your site URL settings.
