How do I install WordPress with Softaculous?

1 min read

Softaculous is a one-click installer available in many hosting control panels. It sets up WordPress for you in a couple of minutes, no manual database or file work required. Here is how to use it.

Finding Softaculous #

  1. Log in to your control panel (cPanel or DirectAdmin).
  2. Look for Softaculous Apps Installer or a WordPress icon.
  3. Click it to open the installer.

Installing WordPress #

  1. Click WordPress, then Install Now.
  2. Choose Protocol: select https:// (with or without www) so your site uses SSL.
  3. Choose Domain: pick the domain to install on.
  4. In Directory: leave this blank to install on the main domain, or enter a folder name for a subfolder install.
  5. Set the Site Name and description (you can change these later).
  6. Create an admin username and a strong password. Avoid “admin” as the username.
  7. Enter your admin email.
  8. Click Install.

After installation #

  • Softaculous shows your site URL and admin login URL (usually /wp-admin).
  • Log in and choose a theme.
  • Install only the plugins you truly need.

Tips for a secure start #

  • Use a strong admin password and a non-obvious username.
  • Keep WordPress, themes, and plugins updated.
  • Enable automatic backups.

Troubleshooting #

  • Install fails: make sure the target folder is empty.
  • Site not secure: confirm you chose the https protocol and that SSL is active.
  • Cannot log in: use the password reset link on the login page.
