A contact form lets visitors reach you without exposing your email address to spam. WordPress does not include one by default, but adding a form with a plugin is quick and free. This guide walks through it.
Why use a form instead of a plain email link #
- It hides your address from spam bots.
- It gives visitors a simple, structured way to reach you.
- You can collect exactly the details you need.
Step 1: Install a contact form plugin #
- Go to Plugins > Add New.
- Search for a reputable contact form plugin.
- Click Install Now, then Activate.
Step 2: Create your form #
- Open the plugin and create a new form.
- Add the fields you want: name, email, subject, message.
- Set the address that submissions are emailed to.
- Save the form.
Step 3: Add the form to a page #
The plugin gives you a block or a shortcode. Edit your Contact page, add the form block (or paste the shortcode), and publish. Your form is now live.
Reduce spam on your form #
- Enable the plugin’s spam protection or a CAPTCHA.
- Keep required fields sensible.
- Make sure your domain’s email is set up so submissions deliver reliably.
Troubleshooting #
- Submissions not arriving: check spam, confirm the notification address, and consider an SMTP plugin so WordPress sends mail reliably.
- Form not displaying: confirm the block or shortcode is on the page.
- Lots of spam: enable CAPTCHA or anti-spam.
