# How do I create an FTP account in cPanel?

An FTP account lets you upload and manage website files with a program like FileZilla. Creating a separate account is safer than sharing your main login. If your hosting uses cPanel, here is how.

## Step-by-step: create an FTP account

1. Log in to cPanel.
2. In the **Files** section, click **FTP Accounts**.
3. Enter a username and choose the domain.
4. Set a strong password.
5. Set the **Directory** to limit access (for example, a single folder).
6. Set a quota or leave it unlimited if allowed.
7. Click **Create FTP Account**.

## Getting the connection details

- In the FTP Accounts list, click **Configure FTP Client** next to your account.
- Note the server (host), username, and port.

## Connecting with FileZilla

1. Open FileZilla and create a new site.
2. **Host:** your server or domain.
3. **Port:** 21 for FTP, or use the secure option if provided.
4. **Username and password:** the FTP account details.
5. Connect and upload files into *public_html*.

## Tips

- Limit each account to the folder it needs.
- Delete FTP accounts you no longer use.
- Prefer secure FTP (FTPS/SFTP) where available.

## Troubleshooting

- **Cannot connect:** re-check host, port, and password.
- **Files not on the site:** confirm they are in the correct directory.
- **Timeouts:** switch between active and passive mode.
