# How to Broadcast with SAM Broadcaster to Your Radio Server

SAM Broadcaster is a powerful, professional broadcasting application used by many established internet radio stations. It combines playlist automation, live mixing, crossfading, and encoding in one package, which makes it a step up from simpler tools. This guide explains how to connect SAM Broadcaster to your Disoh radio server so you can broadcast with its full feature set.

## Before you begin

Collect your server connection details from your radio control panel, as you will enter them into SAM's encoder settings:

- **Server type:** SHOUTcast or Icecast.
- **Hostname or IP and port.**
- **Source password.**
- For Icecast, the **mount point**.

## Setting up the encoder

SAM Broadcaster sends audio to your server through an encoder you configure inside the app. To set it up:

- Open SAM Broadcaster and find the **Encoders** window.
- Add a new encoder and choose the format (for example, MP3) and bitrate.
- Select the server type that matches your server (SHOUTcast or Icecast).
- Enter the server address, port, and password, plus the mount point for Icecast.
- Save the encoder configuration.

## Building your playlist and going live

One of SAM's strengths is automation. You can load your music into the library, build a queue or rotation, and let it play continuously, while still jumping in for live segments. A typical flow is:

- Import your tracks into the media library.
- Add songs to the playlist or set up a rotation.
- Press play so audio is running through SAM.
- Start the encoder to connect to your server and go live.
- Confirm the stream by opening your listen URL in a player.

## Tips for a professional sound

Use SAM's crossfading and gain settings to smooth transitions between tracks, and set consistent volume levels so listeners are not adjusting their volume constantly. Choosing a sensible bitrate, such as 128 kbps MP3, keeps quality high while remaining reliable for most listeners.

## Troubleshooting

- **Encoder will not connect:** verify the server type, address, port, password, and mount point.
- **No audio on air:** confirm SAM is actually playing and the encoder is started.
- **Choppy playback for listeners:** lower the bitrate or check your connection.
